One of my first jobs was working at a Kohl’s department store. They eventually put me in the shoe department.
It was truly awful.
If you’ve worked in a shoe department at a big brick and mortar store, I don’t have to tell you that it’s awful. You… know.
But I remember those days of going into the back of the small backlog of shoes, a tiny ‘warehouse’ adjacent to the rows of sneakers, and taking a few precious moments1 to think. Now when I daze off, this is how I visualize my inner thoughts.
Rob’s inner mind is checking in the back, generating some sanity. Sometimes he comes back with what you wanted. Sometimes he was just back there to think about something, to generate his own peace, or to have a laugh at an old memory.
How do you visualize your thoughts?
It’s helpful to understand that our minds are sometimes doing things we aren’t even aware of fully. We pull random things on the fly. Maybe a neuron fires at response to some sight, smell, sound, or taste that sends us down an old dirt road in search of past adventures. Or, you’re like me, and I’m in the back of the storefront, peeking through old shelves, diving in to find the best item for this exact moment.
Maybe it’s time to go dust of the shelves and see what creative items you’ll discover in the ‘back of the shop’?
Where do you “go” to think? Let me know!
not the figurines. stay with me.
